More signs. Do this don’t do that can’t you read the signs?

CE and Mrs. CE were stuck (as usual ) on the Cross Bronx Expressway today.  We decided to call 311 and ask if anyone in the city cared about the problem of trucks traveling in the left lane?  The 311 operator politely asked, “what do you mean” to which CE replied; “well the sign doesn’t say you need a membership card to drive in the left lane, but the sign does say “ no trucks no buses and no trailers in the left lane” after several moments of silence, the 311 operator said “ what do you want me to do about that?” Well I suppose as the song  lyrics go, the only thing we can do is “ get me a pen and a paper and I will make up my own little sign” The nice 311 operator was not convinced that my sign would be an improvement so he suggested that I leave a comment for the Mayor.

To be continued.

Handle with care does not mean try to break.

CE is a huge fan of our postal delivery service.  Books about the Pony Express were among my favorites as a kid.  Today however our local postal delivery person must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed.  At approximately 3:00pm this afternoon (captured on camera) a box marked fragile was thrown to the ground by our front door.  As CE’s father would say, “I’m surrounded”.

Clearly seeing is not always believing

Mrs. CE wanted to make a stop to pick up her glasses at our favourite glasses store so we checked the website which clearly states that closing time on Saturday is 4:30.   Not do fast, we arrived to learn that they close at 3:30pm.

Moral of the story is don’t believe everything you read on the web.

Emergency Room

Unfortunately CE spent the better part of the weekend visiting a loved one at the  emergency room. Thankfully the doctors nurses and staff at The ER were amazing and everything will be ok.

One rather bizarre almost mind numbing takeaway is that the vending machines in the ER waiting room are stocked with unhealthy drinks and snacks.  Might this be a way for the hospital to drum up business?   Shouldn’t the hospital be the last place to find sugary fat laden food?

anyone want a piece of that kit cat bar?

oh I get it “a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down”.

Facebook

 “Facebook is therefore I am”

why do adults insist upon posting their lives to social media.  Why does CE get the impression (false or true) that most people who are active on Facebook lead unbelievably wonderful lives. Isn’t Facebook presenting a shallow narrow narcissistic view of the world?

there are exceptions of course, check out beautifulself.org to see what happens in the “real world”.

so what are the rest of us doing Tikkun Okam ( to repair the world )?

Help I need a doctor

sorry but the doctor just told us that he won’t be in on August 3rd.  What? I’ve waited two months for the appointment.  And I scheduled my vacation around the appointment.  Well I am sorry the next available date we have is September 21st

CE will keep you posted.

The salad bar caper

CE loves a good salad bar, but come on people now, didn’t your parents teach you to not eat with your hands?  Let’s see if the next platter was handled better.

No such luck. CE can only imagine what sort of bacteria is being transmitted while enjoying this buffet.

Uber Uber wherefore art thou?

this afternoon CE’s daughter booked an Uber in advance to drive her to JFK to catch a flight to meet her husband in Ireland. Six minutes before the car was supposed to arrive, CE’s daughter received a message from Uber that there were no cars available.

Thank you Uber for caring and for refreshing CE’s recollection that if a corporation does something to benefit the consumer, it’s a coincidence.

Water jugs on course can be hazardous to your health | Golfweek

according to the Fenway website;

Fenway’s stature as one of the pre-eminent golf clubs in Westchester results from the time tested greatness of its golf course and the rich history of its professionals. The course, designed by A. W. Tillinghast, one of America’s greatest architects, opened on July 4, 1924. Fenway’s sloping greens, deep traps and deceptively difficult landing areas, have proven time and again that this golf course need be compared to no other and stands on its own as a premier test of golfing excellence

CE and CEjr. Thank their hosts for an amazing day but isn’t it time for a water upgrade?  The community wears its Tillinghast legacy proudly on shirts and tees

But it’s hot out there and 1924 could be imprinted on bottles, so perhaps it’s time to bring Poland Spring to the club.

Fairways and greens.

Come on people now

in days of yore CE was of the mindset that the lack of cleanliness as seen below was a corporate and lack of management issue.

those days of yore are over

come on people now we can do better.  As consumers we have the choice to purchase our espressos where ever we choose, but that does not give us the right to be disrespectful.

Plastic straws have become the new #1 public outcast.

single use plastic items might soon become as rare as pet rocks. But remember if a paper ( it might be time to invest ) straw is not available, be sure that the drinking glass is clean because a cold virus can spread.

Caveat Emptor, Buyer Beware

Beware of

this Deli on sixth avenue. CE and Mrs. CE stopped in to purchase some water and were clearly treated like tourists.  We purchased two bottles of water (rather expensive) the cost came to $4.50 I handed the gentleman behind the register a $20 bill he proceeded to give us back $5.50.
